This is a patient in her early 20's from the midwest who flew in to my Scottsdale, Arizona area medical practice with complaints of excess skin of the labia minora. This patient was extremely self-consious and embarrassed about the appearance of her genitalia to the point that it affected her dating and sexual life. She wished to have a reduction of the excess labia skin in order to obtain a more normal appearance.
I recommended a labia reduction using a wedge resection technique to minimize scarring, to minimize the chance of sensation loss, and to give her the most natural appearance possible. After surgery, the patient recovered extremely well, and could not have been happier with the results of her surgery. She reports that she is much more comfortable with dating and intimacy now that she is no longer embarrassed by the appearance of her labia.
