This patient is a male in his mid-twenties who came from the greater Phoenix, Arizona area to my Scottsdale, Arizona area medical practice with interest in otoplasty (ear reshaping) surgery. Specifically, the patient was unhappy with the way his ears "stuck out". He felt that his left ear was worse than the right.
I felt this patient would be a good candidate for otoplasty, in which the goal would be to refold the abnormally underfolded upper ear. This is one of the most common causes of ears that "stick out" too far.
I performed surgery during which I used fine internal sutures to refold the patient's ear cartilage, allowing his ears to look more symmetrical and less projected. The patient recovered very well after surgery and was extremely pleased with his results.
Surgeon: Dr. Cohen
