Breast

Breast enhancement surgery in Phoenix and Scottsdale refers to a wide variety of procedures that address a number of different problems with breast shape and size. Some of these problems are congenital (like underdeveloped breasts and tuberous breasts), while others are acquired (such as breast shrinkage after pregnancy).

Choosing a Breast Enhancement Procedure

There are many variables in determining the appropriate breast procedure for each patient including:

  • Skin quality and elasticity
  • Degree of breast sagging
  • Width of each breast
  • Size and shape of the patient’s ribcage
  • Volume of the breasts

Many women also have some degree of asymmetry with regards to breast size, shape and nipple location.

Because of these multiple factors, it is important that a thorough evaluation is performed before having any breast surgery. Additionally, as a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, we have many techniques available to address each unique situation.

One of the most common plastic surgery procedures our plastic surgeons perform, breast augmentation involves placement of a breast implant to increase breast volume. There are many choices involved in this surgery including the type of implant, the location of the implant (above or below the chest muscle), and the location of the incision. Your surgeon has a lengthy discussion with each patient regarding all of these issues, and factor in their unique body dimensions to obtain the best result possible.

Dr. Steven Sigalove specializes in sub-fascial breast augmentation, a technique that requires less downtime, allows women to return to their workout routines more quickly, and provides beautiful aesthetic results. Learn about this interesting option and discover if it might be right for you.

Breast reduction not only reduces back pain, rashes and shoulder grooving from bras, but it also helps to lift and redesign the breast into a more pleasing shape and size. There are many possible techniques that our surgeons use based on the goals of surgery, the size of a patient’s breasts, and the patient’s preferences.

To elevate and reshape your breasts after they have sagged from aging or pregnancy, our doctors perform breast lift surgery (mastopexy). They also perform this surgery in young women with naturally droopy breasts. On occasion, if there is not enough preexisting breast tissue, they recommend adding a breast implant to improve overall breast volume and “perkiness.”

Women getting breast lift or corrective breast surgery may combine their procedures with fat grafting. Our surgeons use this innovative technique to provide soft, natural fullness in the upper part of the breasts as an alternative to implants, as well as to camouflage any visible edges of implants for patients getting revision surgery.

Surgery of the nipples and areolas includes repair of inverted (inward pointing) nipples, reduction of excessively long or bulky nipples, correction of asymmetric areolas, and reduction of excessively large and/or “puffy” areolas. Our plastic surgeons frequently perform nipple and areola surgery alone; however they can also combine this procedure with other types of breast surgery.

Tuberous breast surgery is for breasts that have been unable to fill out properly because they have been constricted by excessively tight lower breast skin and an unusually high crease under the breast. Instead of turning into a round breast with normal cleavage, the breasts end up having a narrow, tube-like shape. At our Scottsdale, Arizona, medical office, we strive to lower the inframammary fold to a normal position and create round, natural appearing breasts with appropriate cleavage.

Male breast development (gynecomastia) can occur due to hormones and certain medications, but most often the cause is unknown. Regardless of its origin, male breast development can be extremely embarrassing. Our plastic surgeons correct this problem with power assisted liposuction and, if necessary, with direct surgical removal of the abnormal breast tissue.
